LUMIERE

MEDIA: Graphite, Colored Pencil

ORIGINAL SIZE: 12 x 9 in.

DESCRIPTION: Unlike a majority of my other works, this particular drawing has a more uplifting mood to it, both in its bright color scheme and its meaning. While there is no particular message behind this piece, it can be perceived as a symbol of joy or transcendence. The cross at the top of the staff vaguely resembles the Christmas seal, a holiday commonly associated with happiness and pleasant times, which further reinforces the light-hearted tone this picture is meant to convey.

I've been playing the GameBoy Advance volumes of strategy-battle game Fire Emblem (6, 7, 8) since I was younger, and one of the minor details that struck me were the designs and functions of some of the weapons. One category of these 'weapons' is the staves, which, for the most part, are not even used for combat; they are used to heal allies from whatever ailments they may have. Restoration is also symbolized in this drawing by the staff itself, influenced by playing this game series.

The term 'lumiere' is the French word for 'light.'
